I am reading Inside Steve’s Brain, a great book about the success of Apple’s Products like the iPhone iPod and the Macs. And as you know, Apple’s products is all about the best user experiences achieved by the superuser Steve Jobs. As we all have noticed, the minimal design and intuitive user interfaces and Steve’s incredible product presentations in keynotes has made the difference. And I can truly recommend that book to everyone who is involved in designing user interfaces and like to give the best ever user experiences in software and hardware creations. I think my fellow blogger BeGeek had finished that book:) and created these predictive photos which describes the future Apple products. iPhone, iPad, iBoard, iMat. It is so funny. [thanks Andre]

Today I was reading an cnet article where the senior worldwide product marketing manager at Lenovo explains why they are not bring iPad-alike devices with virtual keyboards to market. that is quoted from that commentary.
“We of course build plastic mock-ups that we show (to customers)…we had a slate design factor,” Majapuro said. “The feedback was that for (our) customers it will not work considering of the need to have (a physical) keyboard.”
Majapuro said Lenovo even got feedback from high school kids. “These were 14-year-old kids, who, I thought, would be most willing to try a virtual keyboard but they said no, we want the physical (built-in) keyboard.”
It is a good thing to have build mock-ups and show it to customers. And it is a good thing to listen to 14 year old kids for their opinion whether they like a physical keyboard more than a virtual one. And of course they like a physical keyboard to play games! But there is one vital point lost in that what-the-market-need analyses with all computer hardware manufacturers like Lenovo: They are only in control of the hardware part of the device. They have not any clue about the software running on it. More worst: hardware and the software are not optimized and melted as one synchronized team. A team that smoothly serves smoothly the user input of the human user. Do you remember Steve Ballmer was laughing loud, saying the iPhone will not assemble it without a physical keyboard? precisely, a software manufacturer has no clue how to optimal use the hardware their software has to interact with. In that case it was the type new Apple multitouch screen with a piece of optimized Apple software. You get it? Apple and the iPhone is successful considering Apple is both hardware and software manufacturer. That is the lost point. The Apple iPad will be successful just considering both hardware and software will work like a team, optimized to serve the human user. And the final joker are the apps. 100.000+ more or less useful programs will remind the human user what a useful device it is.

Q: How much does it cost you to put that tiny searchbox on your iPhone web browser? See photo inside the red square. A: $100 million a year! According to a source of businessinsider, Google pays that money annually to Apple to be on the iPhone. Also interesting is the deal of Google Maps on the iPhone. considering Google and Apple are more and more competitors considering of Google’s move to the Nexus One smartphone. Quoting the words of that the editorial and the source: “when Apple first introduced the iPhone, it hammered out its deal for Google Maps in two weeks. When Apple prepared to launch the iPhone 3G with GPS a year later, it was a six-month process “full of acrimony” to get the maps deal finished. Google wanted access to all sorts of details from the maps, but Apple didn’t want to give it up, according to that person.”
How it works out with the next generation iPhone 4G and the new iPad is a big guess. possibly we are “BINGing” in stead of “GOOGling”…

‘Google Buzz’ The whole world is buzzing about Google’s new social communication tool. To be part of it as iPhone owner the ‘Google Buzz’ has been optimized for the iPhone. Buzz was launched yesterday by Google and plans to challenge the might of Facebook and Twitter. I just tried that web app found it interesting. So what does it do for you? It helps you to share your location, your current state to friends and other Buzz users instantly. How can you access it? You can access Google Buzz by going to buzz.google.com straight from your iPhone mobile safari browser.
When the Buzz is accessed through a iPhone (or iPod Touch), it tags posts with the user’s current location. Depending on the user’s privacy settings, he or she can control the accuracy and details of what each of the other users can see — an exact location can be allowed, or it can be limited to identifying the city only. Users are only permitted to use their actual physical location derived from the device’s GPS for their Buzz posts; a Buzz cannot be located from an arbitrary point set by the user (the Google Latitude service permits users to set their location anywhere). The mobile version of Buzz integrates with Google Maps so users can see who is around them. Buzz posts made through Google Maps are public, and can be seen by anybody else using the software. In addition to text, mobile users’ posts may include an uploaded photo. Current platforms supported are limited to devices running Android 2.0+, iPhone/iPod Touch, Windows Mobile, and S60. Please be aware and read about the “privacy flaw” editorial by businessinsider
